NDIS Update - Is Art Therapy evidence based to support NDIS participants?

After all the research and feedback submitted to NDIS and the release of the Duckett review in Sep 2025, NDIS has finally recognised that Art therapy is an evidence-based therapeutic support, that can significantly benefit NDIS participants.

It also affirms ANZACATA as the peak membership body and regulatory authority for qualified Art therapists in Australia, and states only Master trained Art therapists who are registered with ANZACATA, can offer Art therapy to NDIS participants.

As I have those credentials, I can support NDIS participants, who are Plan-managed or Self-managed using the following NDIS item details:

  • Assessment/recommendation, therapy or training- Art Therapist-15_610_0128_1_3

  • As a level 4 ACA Counsellor I can also use the following line item:

Assessment/recommendation, Therapy or training- Counsellor- 15_043_0128_1_3

Please note, as per the new NDIS guidelines from Nov 24th 2025, the revised Art therapy hourly rate will be $156.16.

Please watch this space for more information.

Networks I connect with:

Drawing Within welcomes all communities and works in harmony with Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people, as the traditional owners and custodians of the lands, skies and waterways, where we provide services to the Wadawurrung, DjaDja Wurrung, Djab Wurrung and Jadwadjali peoples.

We pay our respects to their elders past and present, and acknowledge their continuing culture and contribution to the life of this city and south western region of Victoria.

We are committed to providing safe therapeutic spaces to First Nation's people to connect to their culture, countries and communities, as well as celebrating the LGBTIQ community and fostering diversity and all abilities.
